In my months of researching like crazy on how to help my skin, I have stumbled upon different tips and tricks from different and trusted sources that could help achieve nice, beautiful skin not only for today but also for your future self. So now, I wanted to share to you those said tips in one accessible article. You’re welcome btw.

Rub your face cleanser/wash on your palms, not in your face

I know that what most of us do is squeeze the product on our hands, rub our hands together for 2 or 3 times then apply it to your face and then rub the product on our face till it bubbles. Well, hate to burst your bubble(see what I did there?) but that isn’t the best way to do it.

Instead, you should rub the product between your palms and wait for it to bubble up there. Once it’s all ready, that’s when you apply to your face and GENTLY rub the product. The skin on your face is sensitive, so we should treat it with utmost care which leads us to….

Use your ‘skincare’ fingers

When I say treat it with utmost care, I mean it. Think of it as the most fragile part of your body(it isn’t, but just follow with me ere). I’m sure you’ve heard people saying how we shouldn’t pull or rub the skin too much because it could cause wrinkles and sagging which is true. That’s why instead of using all five fingers to apply the product on your skin, use only your fingertips. Specifically, the ring finger and the pinky finger(or as I like to call it: the skincare fingers) as they don’t have too much pressure. I got this tip from a Korean beauty show way back and it has stuck with me ever since.

Though, admittedly I don’t always do this when I wash my face. Especially when I’m in a hurry. But, I still keep in mind to be gentle and not press too hard on my skin. However, I always do this trick when applying my serums and moisturizer. I even use my left fingers so that I’m applying my products even gentler.

Go out and up

This is actually a common tip but in case you needed a reminder, always apply your products from in going out, and in an upward motion to avoid sagging.

Green Tea is the tea

Green tea is so versatile not only as a food ingredient, but also in skincare. I do a lot of DIY skincare with green tea since I find it such a waste to just throw away a tea bag after one use.

What I’ve been doing recently is the green tea ice cube. Icing your face is already a well-known trick, but I step it up a notch by using green tea to double the benefits! Just rub the ice around your face until it all melts, then pat your face until the leftover moisture on your skin is absorbed.

Wait before applying your next product

Your night time routine shouldn’t be in a rush. I have always done this tip since I started doing my skincare, but apparantly not everyone does. And after doing my research, turns out it was actually recommended by experts.

Basically what you should do is wait for a minute or two, or until you feel the product has set before you apply the next one. It really depends on you but here is my wait time for each product before moving on to the next step:

  • Toner – 2 min.
  • Eye cream – 2 min.
  • Serum – 10-15 min.

Apply your products on Damp Face

I learned about this a little late. I knew how body oils worked better if you applied it on damp skin, so one day I just had a thought out of nowhere if it was the same for face products. Turns out, I was right!

Think of your skin as like a sponge. Products are absorbed better if they are damp because they are more permeable compared to when it is dry.

But then didn’t I say to wait before applying products? Meaning by that time, my face is already dry. I have a solution for you: Face Mist! You can use your special face mist or like me, you can just use water. I have this mist which was gifted to me by my mom’s best friend that I use (I think it’s called a nano face mist if you’re interested).

That’s it! I hope you learned a few new tricks to upgrade your skincare routine. What are some of your favorite skincare tips?
