Green tea is just an amazing amazing gift from mother nature. Not only do I  love it as an ingredient to my favorite food and drink, but also as an ingredient to skincare. You can see a lot of green tea infused products, but there are also some quick and easy DIYs you can do right now if your skin needs a little pampering. So don’t throw that teabag away just yet!

But before we get on to the list, let’s get to know more about this wonderful tea shall we?

What Is Green Tea?

Also known as Matcha(the powder form), Green Tea is derived from a plant called Camellia sinensis. It is famously known to have anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory properties that are hugely beneficial to the skin. It also has caffeine and tannis, which shrinks blood vessels and decreases puffiness. And we all know how Caffeine helps up brighten not only our soul in the morning, but our skin too.

What are the benefits?

Now that we know what this amazing tea has to offer let’s get on with our list!

Green Tea Face Mist

After brewing your cup of tea, brew another cup and leave it until the tea is in room temperature. Once it’s ready, transfer it to an empty bottle spray. Easy as that! You can get creative with this of course, I’ve seen some articles adding witch hazel, rosewater and such but I just keep it simple with green tea and distilled water and use my nano mist spray. Word of caution though, since this is a DIY face mist, there’s no preservatives meaning it goes bad quickly(especially if you use tap water) so it’s best to make it in small batches. I personally use my face mist for only 3-4 days or a week at most.

Green Tea Ice Cube

I’ve mentioned this DIY on my skincare tips and tricks article here, but it’s still very much a worthy DIY to add to this list. So, if you’re not familiar with the icing technique, it’s when you rub ice on your face. It’s like a ‘secret’ beauty tip even for celebrities. There are a lot of benefits in icing your face such as: reducing puffy under-eyes, reducing acne inflamation, and minimizing pores. So why not take it up a notch and use Green Tea ice cubes instead of regular ones. In that way, you get double benefits from icing and Green Tea!

Green Tea  and Honey Face Mask

A very simple and easy DIY face mask that only requires two ingredients: Green Tea and Honey.

Honey has anti-fungal properties that could help treat acne, and it moisturizes skin. So, combining these two makes a power combo in skincare. And honestly, every time I do this mask my skin is really soft afterwards. Here’s what to do:

*Before trying this mask do a patch test, especially if you have allergies to bee, bee venom, or pollen as it might cause an allergic reaction to your skin

  • Open your used Green Tea teabag and pour the contents in a bowl
  • Add the honey (you can use either raw or manuka honey)
  • Mix together
  • Apply on your face and leave for 20 minutes
  • Wash off
Doesn’t this remind you of that divination class from the 3rd Harry Potter movie where tea leaves can predict their future?

tip: it’s been a while since I made this mask so I made the mistake of forgetting to squeeze the excess water from the teabag. Make sure you do that so your mask won’t be runny

Also, yes, this can get messy but after washing this mask off and feeling your face instantly soften and brighten, it’s def worth it!
